I was told by my dealer today that F-Types on order now will be delivered in July. This seems later than Jaguar had originally indicated.

I am not surprised by the delay. Bringing a new car to market is an incredible feat of logistics.
We were lucky enough to have put a deposit down at our dealership in October. The orders for the F Type opened January 28 at noon EST in the USA. Our order was placed within the dealership alotment of 7 that day. Our order shows a tentative build starting the second week of May and expected delivery to customer of June 25, 2013. According to the order print out the dates are tentative until Monday April 1.

We were also told that we may not have the first one at the dealership because Jaguar has told them they have stock units on the line so that one or two would be arrive at each dealership for customers to see/test.

PS This was in an e-mail directly from Jaguar Corp NJ dated January 28 (2013), to answer a question I had:

"I just saw a bulletin that said the order call is opening noon EST today, so it should have just opened."

Response today March 1 from Jaguar:

"Mark, production did start as planned, with no delays, so your build timing of May is probably still accurate. We just got a truckload of cars delivered for dealer training, and they look amazing.

I put a deposit down for the base V6 back on 12/15/2012.

(TP04) Cirrus/Jet with Cirrus Stitch: N/C
(LKG) Satellite Grey: $600
(B55C) Performance Seat: $1,500
(Z61H) Premium Pack 1: $3,000

For what it's worth as of 3/8/13 my most recent build sheet shows:

Order Created Date: 2/2/13
Last Date of Order Change: 4/9/13
Factory Complete Date: 5/22/13
Accepted Build Date: 5/1/13
Current Planned Build Date: 5/1/13
Requested Delivery Date: 7/8/13
Accepted Delivery Date: 7/8/13
Current Planned Delivery Date: 7/8/13

Note the factory complete and delivery dates have improved by about 27 days form my initial build sheet. Seems to me it might be possible for Jaguar to even improve the schedule further - at least it's trending the right way.

GerryJag,
Orders were updated yesterday by Jaguar. Check with your dealer to see if your order/build/delivery dates have moved. Here are my dates as of yesterday;

Accepted Build Date 5/1/13
Current Planned Build Date 5/1/13
Factory Complete Date 5/22/13
Accepted Delivery Date 6/25/13
Current Planned Delivery Date 6/25/13

These are the same dates dates as I was told in January. Also, Jag Corp in NJ says there have not been any delays and things are going as planned. Also they do have vehicles on the line that are "stock" vehicles for the dealers that will be delivered before the ordered vehicles. The first vehicles to hit the dearler lots should be the end of May here in the USA. First order vehicles will begin hitting in early mid June depending on the dealer.
[hr]
PS I am not sure how or why your delivery dates "improved" by 27 days and still shows July delivery. I put my deposit down in October, but my dealer did not order until the day orders opened the end of Januay. My delivery date is the same now as it was shown in January (June delivery). What is also strange is my build complete date is the same as yours but my delivery date is almost 2 weeks earlier. I live in Houston so the vehicle may arrive at the port of Houston and will have quicker delivery to the dealer compared to vehicles that have to be transported.

I also went back and looked and my Order Created Date is 1/28/13. You show 2/2/13 for your order created date, but I am not sure that matters. My dealer and Jag Corp noted that the dealership orders are "pre slotted" based on the dealers and you will fall in their window. Anyway, I can only assume extra transport time for the difference in our delivery dates.

FYI, I too was quoted a 6/26 delivery date in the Boston area. However, my dealer just said delivery was pushed up a couple of weeks, although he didn't give me the exact date.

I ordered in March, but I was able to spec a car the dealer already had on order. They're getting a static display car tomorrow, which ill be checking out. I think they'll get their launch cars towards the end of the month.

V6S, Salsa Red.

SWEET, I have a message into my dealer to find out if my order delivery date has been bumped up too.............

Thanks for the info!

New delivery date! My dealer said the system is "updating" so he is unable to print my build sheet at the moment but he noted they were able to access the "pipeline" which shows my new delivery date of June 19th. That is almost a week earlier than any information/date we were ever told.

FYI, my dealer said that the east coast cars arrive in Newark, where they do final assembly (US spec stuff, etc.) I saw an article that cars left the JLR Castle Bromwich plant last week - could have been our cars! (End of the video shows them being driven onto a train.)

The cars that left last week were UK cars I think......... any cars that may have already left for the US are "spec" cars that were on line with general specs that are show/sell cars for dealers. I was told directly by my dealer and verified by Jaguar Corp (NJ) that dealer order vehicles would be in the second shipment. In other words anything the dealers ordered or could modify would be in the second shipments. I was told up front that we WOULD NOT get the first vehicle(s) into the dealership unless we were willing to accept a spec vehicle. US dealers should get their first (spec) vehicles the last week of May or early June and ORDERED vehicles would be the next vehicles to arrive.

Just another update, my dealer was able to get me a copy of my latest Build print out. My Build now shows the VIN Number and Common Status Point: Order Built
Brand Status Point: Off Assemby (DCC)

The order was amended on 05/12/13 to show the new: Current Planned Delivery Date: 06/19/13

I have an e-mail into my contact at Jaguar to find out what DCC stands for and the next steps/anticipated shipping information.

#15 ·
Sorry for all the posts but here is the response from Jag(Corp):

Mark, truthfully I have no idea what DCC means, some internal factory code. Off assembly means all the parts are on, but there's still a ways to go before the car is done. Inspections, tests, alignment, etc. all have to be done before the car leaves the factory and heads to transport. Build sheet will likely only note when the car is done at the factory but not shipping - once it leaves it is property of the transport company. However your dealer can see shipping progress when it passes certain gateways.

Interesting. Much of what my dealer told me agrees with your info. They're getting spec cars in a week or two, and gave me the option to get one of those, but one's a V8 (which I'm not interested in), and the other is a V6S in Salsa Red (like mine on order), but it has $10K more in options than mine. Too much!

But the dealer said his spec cars were already in the US. He thought my car was probably off the line already, and delivery would be 4-5 weeks (train to port, ship to Newark, final assembly, transport to destination.)

He said April 11 was the rough delivery date. Hope he's right!

Just my opinion because I don't know the actual dealership stacking on the orders, but my vehicle was supposed to be in the first batch on the line after the spec vehicles. Yours was probably somewhere in that batch also and could be as much as 5 working days earlier or later than mine. If you got a BUILD print out from your dealer it will give you the status with the most important date to look at: Order Last Amended which will show you when it came off the line and considered "Order Built". As the info from Jag (Corp) noted that order built does not mean ready to ship..... also the new Current Planned Delivery Date will show you a "SAFE" date to transfer the vehicle to the customer. My dealer noted that date is put on there for vehicle inspections/corrections once the vehicle arrives which could be 7-10 days before that date.

You note April 11 as the rough delivery, but I assume you mean June 11???? Correct????

DJS,

I just found out from my dealer that all Jags come into either NJ or Ga. So I wouldn't be surprised if our vehicles maybe on the same ship. My "Planned" delivery date is a few days after yours and I assume that would be the extra shipping time to my dealer in Houston.

Doh! Correct. I haven't gotten any build sheets from the dealer, I just email him every week asking if the delivery has changed. He said June 11 was more of a window rather than an exact date, which I think agrees with your info.

My dealer had a white preproduction V6S on display for a few days, which I got to see last weekend. I'm not usually a fan of white, but it looked great. A few things were broken on the car, but it's lived a tough life between shows and dealer displays. Cool to see it in person. The trunk is a joke, but I didn't feel like bringing my golf clubs in to see how they'd fit. Felt great sitting in it, though it had the performance seats and I'm getting the sports seats with full leather.

DJS,

I would be really interested in hearing some of the details on your BUILD report, especially to compare to some of my details. It takes your salesman 5 minutes to pull up, print, scan and e-mail to you. Page two has DATES and STATUS. If you are able to get a copy let me know the;
Accepted Delivery Date (your original date)
Current Planned Delivery Date (the latest "safe" transfer to owner date - Mine is June 19)
Order Last Amended (date should be when assembly completed) if Status shows ORDER BUILT and Brand Status OFF ASSEMBLY.

As far as the white vehicle you saw, that sounds like the one that was here in Houston in January for the Auto Show. Things were already broken and some scuff/rubbed parts then...........lol.

I guess we are suckers, we kind of felt we couldn't order ours without the performance seats; Redzone/Jet ext leather on a Salsa Red car................ wouldn't want anybody to miss us going down the road...................

OK, I asked for the build report. As for the white V6S, boy, was it nice to sit in it. Hope the sport seats are as comfortable as the performance seats (the dealer said he didn't notice much difference when he did the training at Indy.)

I asked him if I could run up the roof to see what it was like. The battery was low, so it wouldn't go up. He looked around, and as there wasn't anyone else in the showroom, he said 'start it up', which I did. :) Cool dash, though I didn't play with much.

DJS,
I am looking forward to seeing your dates/info on the build. I get information from the dealer and was lucky enough early to make contact with a guy up at Jag Corp that has been hands on and actually has been to the factory a couple times during the ramp up process to get the "inside" scoup, but it still feels like I am on an island with nobody to compare details.

My contact at Jag had sent me an e-mail approval to get in/sit and play with the white F Type at the Houston Auto Show. It was kind of cool up on the platform and nobody was allowed in, when they escorted us into the area and into the car. Everybody was bitching "why do they get to sit in the car"............ lol, anyway the sport seats are SOOOOO cool looking we felt they added to the vehicle looks, so we upgraded on our order.

When did you buy/order yours? We were all in on it from the start, luckily it fell in cycle with when we were considering looking at new vehicle. We put $5k down last October (first at our dealership), with agreement from the dealership it was refundable until we saw the vehicle in late January at the Houston show. We were able to see the vehicle days before the dealer orders were opened and picked all our options and the order was submitted the first day (Jan 29 if I remember correctly). From that standpoint we did NOT have much negotiating room (lol). We agreed up front at Sticker Price and the dealership would throw in a set of bright red "jeweled" growler wheel center caps ($130) to match the Salsa red so we could feel like we were getting a deal............ how did you come out on price?

#23 ·
Kram,
I didn't bother to negotiate. I used the online configurator, and then went into the dealer. First time I saw an F-type in person was last week!

In mid-March, I decided I wanted one, so I went to the nearest dealer. He said they had two on order, one of which was spoken for. He said I could claim the other one, and configure it how I wanted. He thought then that delivery would be May sometime. I initially spec'd a V6 in Salsa Red, and left a $5K deposit.

Sometime in April, he got back to me and said that the first build would be V6S and V8 only, and they didn't know when they'd build the base V6. Delivery was expected for June for V6S & V8. It was more than I wanted to pay, but I bumped up to the V6S so I wouldn't have to wait.

Based on everything I've read since then, the V6S is clearly the way to go. Roads around here have potholes and frost heaves, and the V6 suspension is too tight for that, I think. I went with the standard 19" V6S wheels - definitely didn't want 20".

Later on I added the Premium Pack - had enough worthwhile goodies. Went for the sport seats (all leather) in mineral - the performance seats look cool, but I wasn't willing to spend that much on them. Did like the look of the camel stitching/seatbelts, but wasn't willing to spring for it.

DJS,

So are you working at Sticker Price? I have not heard anybody going over sticker and of course haven't heard anybody under sticker either. Your dealer info is a little different than we were told and later verifed by my contact at Corp. The first F Type orders on the line were the base V6 and V6s, the V8s engines were next in line but only a week behind. The same happened with the original spec vehicles ............. not sure why the V8s were second each time. Although it was only by about a week or so and with stacking/shipping they probably all shipped about the same time. My dealer has a spec base and a spec V6s due to arrive before my ordered vehicle........... but paying this much we were particular about what we wanted.

We also liked the 20" Tornado wheels so thats what we ordered.
[hr]
PS The dealers were given allotments and maybe your dealer was only slotted for those vehicles on their initial order. I was told by my dealer they had 2 vehicles on the initial allotment of vehicles they could order (they didn't specify which models) and 7 orders total for the entire year, not counting the 2 (6) spec vehicles they were scheduled, so they are only scheduled to get 13 F Types total unless more allotments open from Jag.

#25 ·
PSS I just spoke to my dealer and he told me that he now has 6 (SIX) spec F Type vehicles sitting in NJ waiting to ship to him. He said the first one arrived nearly a month ago and his original paperwork scheduled him to get his first one in April. Somewhere/somehow that changed and Jag wants EVERY dealership to get at least one F Type on about the same date. My dealer said he now expects 2 before the end of the month and ALL SIX (6) spec vehicles will arrive before my ordered vehicle.

He noted to me they are one of the largest "stand alone" Jaguar Dealers and are in the top 10 Jag volume dealers in the country. Because of that he assumes he would get more vehicles than some other dealers. With roughly 140 Jaguar Dealers in the US if each dealer got 13 that would be well over half of the original 3000 world wide production units Jaguar announced for this year.

#26 ·
Just for more information my dealer noted his spec vehicles include; 2 - V8s, 2 - V6s and 2 - Base V6 models. He noted he has no choice and NO idea which 2 will arrive in May. He did note the colors: polaris white, ebony black, lunar gray, satellite gray, firesand and italian racing red.

Note: The dealer is not getting a spec in the color we wanted/ordered; Salsa Red and with our selections so even though we put down the first deposit and will be getting the 7/8th F Type into and through the dealership at least we will be getting what we want.
