Has anyone gotten this button to work? It didn't do anything on my 2015 R and it doesn't do anything on my 2020 R. So.....am I missing something here? The button lights up when I push it, but it doesn't do anything to the spoiler. It still raises and lowers on it's own depending on my speed.

I checked mine in the garage, without the engine running.
You are correct. The button activates the spoiler (manually). Press, it goes up. Press again, it goes down.
On the highway, it lifts automatically at about 70mph, then retracts when speed drops.
Have not checked to see if the button will lower the spoiler above 70mph - next time out.
Mine is the 2021 R-Dynamic but would expect the 2020R to be the same.
Time for trip to the dealer!!

I never tried the button when the car wasn't in motion. I tried it in my garage, sure enough it works! I was thinking it was there so that I could lower it when I wanted to.

Totally useless button! Researched it long ago and found out it was for raising the spoiler for cleaning...but doesn't do anything else. Why do I need to clean under a spoiler that doesn't go up until 70 mph? If someone is looking under at that speed I've got more work for them to do. Superman is in the building.

It is just intended to clean under the spoiler and will not function when moving. It activates automatically around 70mph like the Porsche tails except they can be manually raised and lowered. Many people seem to disconnect the spoiler function on their F Type by unplugging the connector by the battery but I rather prefer my spoiler function like it should.

Hello all Stations, That button has one purpose and one purpose only. And that is allow access to the underside of the spoiler area for cleaning. It will only raise the spoiler when the car is at a standstill. All other activation is automatic and governed by your highway speed of 65-70 mph. My guess is that the factory determined early on that it would be too hard to find people willing to run along side to clean under there at 70 mph. Cheers.

I can confirm that in Europe it works at any speed, spoiler can be raised/lowered with the engine idling or vehicle in motion regardless of speed. For some reason that would be illegal in US below 70 mph, so what remains is the "cleaning " function only with engine not running.

PS i know where the button is on my console, but must I turn on the car before I can raise the spoiler?

To clean under the spoiler of a Jaguar F-Type—especially the coupe or convertible models with the active rear spoiler—you’ll want to raise it manually using the spoiler control button, which is specifically designed for this purpose.

🧼 Step-by-Step: Cleaning Under the Spoiler
1. Power On Without Starting the Engine

  • Press the ignition button once to activate the car’s electronics (don’t start the engine).
  • This enables interior controls, including the spoiler switch.
2. Locate and Press the Spoiler Button

  • The button is typically on the center console, near the gear selector.
  • Press it once to raise the spoiler manually. You should hear a soft motor sound as it lifts.
3. Clean Carefully

  • Use a microfiber cloth and a gentle automotive cleaner or quick detailer spray.
  • Avoid high-pressure water directly on the spoiler mechanism.
  • Pay attention to the hinges and underside, where grime tends to accumulate.
4. Lower the Spoiler

  • Press the button again to retract it once cleaning is complete.
  • If the button doesn’t respond, drive above ~70 mph briefly (on a safe, legal road) to trigger automatic deployment, then clean and let it retract naturally.

🛑 Important Notes

  • Never force the spoiler manually—it's motorized and linked to stability systems.
  • The Jaguar manual advises against tampering with the spoiler at high speeds or when the car is off.
  • If your button doesn’t work, it may be disabled or only functional when the car is in a specific mode.
