2014 V8 F-Type. 34,000 miles. The winglets on the side went up for the convertible top. Then nothing. Jaguar dealership says the convertible top motors need to be replaced for $3,500. Thinking about just selling them the car instead. I've ignored my past advice to myself to never again own a Range Rover or Jaguar out of warranty.

Does the repair price sound right? I know the car is 7 years old, but should the convertible motors fail after 34k miles? Thanks for any advice.

Both motors need replacing? Some of those parts in the "14" like mine are made by Bosch. I would try another non dealer garage. If they don't find any other malfunction have the garage take one out and have an automotive electronics rebuilder test it. We had an XK8 as well. Pulled the top motor, took it to the rebuilder, had it tested and it was fine. The problem was elsewhere.

Sounds like dealer is screwing you over. Why does everyone keep taking their car back to the dealer out of warranty. Find a reputable shop that deals with European cars that will charge about 1/4 of the price.
