Jaguar's new F-type is shaping up to be quite a sports car - with news of the full engine line-up, including supercharged V6s and V8 power, now confirmed by Jaguar.
CAR's artists have stripped away the disguise of the official 'spyshots' issued by Jaguar upon confirmation that the F-type project had been approved. The top three photos above give us a good stab at what the production F-type will look like.
Jag will launch the F-type first as a soft-top roadster in spring 2013, as depicted in our artist's impressions above. A coupe will follow, most likely a year later in 2014. Expect prices to start at around £55,000, placing it slap bang between Porsche's Cayman/Boxster duo and the 911.
Tell us which engines are in the 2013 Jaguar F-type
Amidst all the hoopla at the 2012 Beijing motor show, Jaguar announced a range of engines for the new 2013 F-type:
• 3.0 V6 supercharged, 335bhp and 332lb ft @ 1800rpm
• 3.0 V6 supercharged, 375bhp and 339lb ft @ 1800rpm
• 5.0 V8, in either 503bhp or 543bhp forms (as yet undecided)
No performance or economy figures have yet been announced. But judging by the compact dimensions of the F-type and its all-aluminium construction, it's going to be pretty rapid. The same, lower-powered V6 in the heavier XF will deliver 0-62mph in 5.7sec - so even the cheapest F-type will have proper performance credentials.
As you can see from our renderings, the new F-type will closely mimic the Jaguar C-X16 concept car from 2011.
More on Jaguar's new V6 engine family
The new quad-cam 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is derived from Jag's existing 5.0-litre V8 family and shares the direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and aluminium construction of the eight. It also includes stop-start and drives through an eight-speed ZF automatic. That's key to the future option to add the hybrid module for a petrol-electric F-type.
The exact capacity of the F-type's new V6 is 2995cc. At launch, both V6s will be supercharged, the Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger nestling in the vee of the engine block to ram air into the engine.
Jag also highlights a new system of counter-balancing weights used to match the smoothness of its bigger V8 brother.
The new May 2012 issue of CAR Magazine is out now - and this month our cover story is all about the gorgeous new Jaguar F-type. CAR's Tim Pollard was granted exclusive access to the first F-type prototypes, the C-X16 concept car and the people who are in charge of making this £55,000 sports car a reality. Had my New JAG delivered 1 month ago and i'm disapointed of the sound level that the 2018 Model makes.
My 2004 F model that was equipped with an Active exhaust that had a more fun making sound level.
It sound like 2018 F-type S has a towel stuck in the damper compared to my previous F.

Still trying to discern the difference between TracDSC and DSC Off, after all this time. So which setting gives best acceleration, best track day performance, most wheel spin, allows most oversteer, etc ?
My mum ordered a 2018 f type svr in November and took delivery 2/22/18. It went back to the dealer on 2/26 and has been there since. It is leaking oil and they have tried replacing the crankshaft seal so far but that didn't fix it. Then they tried replacing something to do with the oil cooler...
