What detector are you using?scooby789 said:Well I got stopped for speeding yesterday with a radar gun and I have a heated windscreen![]()
just great - super fast car and now exposed to speed traps more than before. I didn't even want the option, but was on the spec car bought for a steal off the showroom floor.clam said:I just chatted with Escort. Here's what they had to say:
"That windshield can impact the performance of the detector. Most windshield like that have a space to place a detector or GPS unit that is not blocked. You dealer should have that information."
I guess it's time to talk to the dealer, although I doubt they will be of help. Someone in a cold climate (I live in Tucson, AZ) will have to use the heated windshield function and tell us what portion, if any, of the windshield is not heated.

Can someone confirm something on the heated windshield - is this different from the normal "defrost" option that any other car has? If you don't have the heated windshield additional option, do you still have defrost feature?clam said:Luckily, upon closer inspection, I determined that I do not have the heated windshield option so I'm ordering a new Escort.
Yes, a "heated windshield" is different. It has a thin metallic coating on it that can be electrically heated similar to the rear window. It's the metallic coating that reduces radar detector performance. The normal defrost operation blows hot air on the inside of the windshield.tiger4366 said:Can someone confirm something on the heated windshield - is this different from the normal "defrost" option that any other car has? You have the normal defrost operation whether or not you have the heated windshield option.
